Weather Report stands as one of the most influential and enduring jazz-fusion groups, outlasting many peers while continually redefining the genre under the visionary leadership of Joe Zawinul. Formed by Miles Davis alumni Zawinul, Wayne Shorter, and Airto Moreira, the band initially expanded on the groundbreaking sound of In a Silent Way and Bitches Brew. The arrival of bassist Jaco Pastorius in 1976 marked their most celebrated era, highlighted by Black Market—an album that blends jazz improvisation with strong African musical influences, helping define what became known as “world fusion.”
