Harris as lead singer in 1950, recording classics like “Jesus Gave Me Water,” “Peace In The Valley,” and “Jesus Paid The Debt.” The group’s powerful harmonies and Cooke’s smooth, emotive voice helped lay the foundation for modern soul music, earning them induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1989 and the Vocal Group Hall of Fame in 2000. Cooke, who inspired generations of soul singers, tragically passed away at age 33 in 1964, but this collection preserves the spiritual and musical brilliance that made him legendary.
